Wishlist for year 2009
Solar power mobile phone.
I am not much of a mobile phone user. For me mobile is no longer a luxury but distraction. My first mobile experied two month back.I am not using mobile phone any more.I tried to get new one but I got totally confused in price/feature/use matrix.I see only one use of phone i.e making calls. The last one I had was Monocrome CDMA LG mobile with no Camera/FM/multimedia.That one served me very well.I wish for light, cheap no-frill no-feature solar powered mobile.
Broadband = 512kbps.
I am using MTNL braodband’s 599 unlimited download plan.It sucks.
They promise me 256kbps speed but what I get is around 128 kbps (plus-minus some delta).I wish this year Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will raise the minimum prescribed speeds for broadband connections from its present level of 256 Kbps to 512Kbps. Atleast in metros.
3 BHK in NCR under 20 lakh.
Till mid of 2008 owning a house in metro look like a distant dream.
Thanks to anti-regulation by Government, arbit pricing by builders
and grand-mad rush to own a house in indian middle claas, house prices touched all time high last year. For a IT engineer buying a house in metro is not a dream but a necessity.I expect some progress in land reforms and fair pricing by developers.I wish for affordable housing this year.
Good health.
Last year, for the first time in my life I was able to join and continue GYM for extended period of time ( 3 months plus). Results were positive and visible. It helped me to destress myself and think fresh.I would like to add running in my regime and would like run a full marathon in coming years.I wish for mind-body-soul harmony this year.
9-5 Office
Officaly I have a 9-5 job.But in reality it is 7-9 including 2.5 hours I spend in commute. 10-12 hours in office/cab means no social/personal life.I would like to improve my productivity and try to get more focus at my work. Managing boss’s expectations is also one area would like to work upon this year.
Better relationships
Life is all about managing relationships. Family, friends, boss,
teammates ,customers, they all make our world.Managing relationships envolve emotional intelligence.I am suffering from serious emotional handicap. My idealistic/perfectionist/rational/puritan self make extremely hard for me to exercise pure expectance.I wish to develop/discover my emotional self thisyear.
No more cost cutting. Please dont fire me.
World economies are in deep crisis.Semiconductor industry even deeper. My company is about to hit rock bottom.Since mid of 2007 we have closed/shifted offices, sold divisions, trimmed staff, fired CEOs and rehearshed every tip/trick in book for survival.I expect lot more downsizing this year.I wish to continue my good work in same or other company.

The most important investment you can make is in yourself. Very few people get anything like their potential horsepower translated into the actual horsepower of their output in life. Potential exceeds realisation for many people…… Just imagine you’re 16 and I was going to give you a car of your choice today, any car you wanted to pick. But there was one catch. It was the only car you were able to have for the rest of your life. You had to make it last. So how would you treat it?
Well, of course you’d read the owners’ manual about five times before you turn the key in the ignition. You would keep it garaged; any little rust would get taken care of immediately; you’d change the oil twice as often as you were supposed to – because you would know it had to last a lifetime….
Then I tell the students you get one body and one mind. And it’s going to have to last you a lifetime so you’d better treat it the same way. You’d better start doing it right now because it doesn’t do any good if you start working on it when you are 50 or 60 and the little speck of rust has turned into something big… The best asset is your own self. You can become to an enormous degree the person you want to be.”

i was talking to a moth
the other evening
he was trying to break into
an electric light bulb
and fry himself on the wires
why do you fellows
pull this stunt i asked him
because it is the conventional
thing for moths or why
if that had been an uncovered
candle instead of an electric
light bulb you would
now be a small unsightly cinder
have you no sense
plenty of it he answered
but at times we get tired
of using it
we get bored with the routine
and crave beauty
and excitement
fire is beautiful
and we know that if we get
too close it will kill us
but what does that matter
it is better to be happy
for a moment
and be burned up with beauty
than to live a long time
and be bored all the while
so we wad all our life up
into one little roll
and then we shoot the roll
that is what life is for
it is better to be a part of beauty
for one instant and then cease to
exist than to exist forever
and never be a part of beauty
our attitude toward life
is come easy go easy
we are like human beings
used to be before they became
too civilized to enjoy themselves
and before i could argue him
out of his philosophy
he went and immolated himself
on a patent cigar lighter
i do not agree with him
myself i would rather have
half the happiness and twice
the longevity
but at the same time i wish
there was something i wanted
as badly as he wanted to fry himself

Genelia D’Souza
Cute.Peppy.Intelligent.Got very-very inviting smile and yes, camera loves her.I think this much is enough to have good time in bollywood. She may not able to find/do versetile (KJ/SRK/YASH ) bollywood stuff as Kajol ( thanks to her childish face/image/personality which I love so much
) she can try doing good cinema as Pretty Zinta did.

Minissha Lamba impressed me with her work in Shaurya but disaapointed in Kidnap. She is young, beauty and intelligent.I listen to her in a recent t.v interview where she sound very cognizant and someone well aware of what she is talking about.I am looking forward to her up coming movies. If she can focus more on substance then skin/style she can do lot better.

Awesome lyrics.I am looking for this soulful punjabi song ever since I listen it first time on my friend’s music system in college. Unfortunetly he had this on audio cassette and he couldn’t remember song’s singer or album name. I googled it and I got this. Same song but in male voice. What my friend had swas in female voice. If you have this song or you know the name of singer/album, please do share with me.

Best read of the year 2008. Reading this was like having intellectual orgasm.
Year 2008 was a good year for my Library. I added around 150+ book to my collection , most of which were hardcovers editions. Unfortunately I manage to read very few books. This year I did more online reading then offline. I would definitely like to improve this equations. Moreover I observed a significant change in my reading taste. I moved-on from reading managment/business/leadership/self-help/formula based books to more deeper subject of human behaviour, philosophy (self-interest,morality,altruism,rationality,religion),quantum physics(butterfly effect, causality, entropy), Behaviourial economics (game theory, choas theory) and classic fiction. I attribute this shift to brilliant essays and articles by
Robert I. Sutton ( Author Hard Facts) ,
Steven D. Levitt (Author Freakonomics) and
Nassim Nicholas Taleb (Author Black Swan) I read this year.
1. The Money Game by Adam Smith
If I have to recommend one book that gives best intro to investment world ,I will recommend ‘The money game’. Awesome book. It gives a unbiased and holistic picture of whole investing world.Highly recommend.
2. Origins of the Crash: The Great Bubble and Its Undoing by Roger Lowenstein
This book made Roger one of my fav author. Bold, factual and thought provoking invastigation of internet bubble. After reading this book no one will never be able to fully trust any commercial institution or managment of a company.
3. Bombardiers: A Novel by Po Bronson
4. Airframe: A Novel by Michael Crichton
5. Daughter of Fortune: A Novel (P.S.) by Isabel Allende
6. The Naked Manager by Robert Townsend
Recommended
7. The Logic of Life: The Rational Economics of an Irrational World: Tim Harford
Recommended.
8. The Age of Paradox: Charles Handy
Recommended.
9. Enterprise One to One by Don Peppers and Martha Rogers
10. Perfect Enough: Carly Fiorina and the Reinvention of Hewlett-Packard by George Anders
Reading this book was bad idea. Badly written and lacking depth.

My movie of the year 2008
It seems that 2008 was a bad year for hollywood.I am not able add one single movie in my library. The Dark Knight did raised some hope but was not that good ( or may be I didnt like Batman that much).Only movie I have now is ‘Wanted’. Though this movies was not the best of hollywood ever produced , I liked this movie for my own interpretation of its story.

My movie of the year 2008. Original. Honest. Bold.
I watched 40+ hindi movies this year. Most of them were thrash.Sheer waste of time and money.Thankfully I watched them on my PC. I am just wondering how many of these you find worth watching in theatre. I added just three new to my video library.
